Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you are considering non-surgical treatments for the first time or have had them before, it is important you know all the information and your questions are answered.

To help, we have put together some frequently asked questions. If you would like some more information about our treatments, or would like to book a complimentary consultation, please contact us as we would love to hear from you.

Can anyone have Botulinum Toxin and Dermal Fillers?

There are some situations in which non-surgical treatments are not suitable. Botulinum Toxin is not suitable for those who are pregnant, or trying for a pregnancy in the next 6 months. In addition, it is not advised for breastfeeding mothers. In regard to Dermal fillers and pregnancy, we recommend not have the treatments during this time, due to ethical reasons, there is not enough evidence to prove its safety.

We do not advise to have any treatments if you are taking medications to thin your blood such as warfarin (Low dose aspirin is suitable). Also, if you have any inflammatory skin conditions., the suitability of treatments will be discussed with you. However, an initial consultation is strongly recommended to discuss suitable solutions for you.

Domestic treatments are not suitable for those under the age of 18.

What happens at the initial consultation?

We want to make sure the treatments you have are suitable for you. Therefore, we will discuss treatment outcomes and areas you would like to improve. During the consultation, both a medical and an aesthetic history will be taken, which will include any medications you currently take.

You will be given plenty of opportunity to ask any questions you have. We also recommend you do your own research as well. As a medical professional, we want you to be fully informed about the treatments, therefore we normally perform the treatments at a later date, after the consultation, which ensure you have the chance to think about it.

What happens when I book the treatments?

After your initial consultation and facial assessment, and you are happy to go ahead – we will book an appointment for treatment, a prescription will be done on your behalf (this process normally takes 48-72 hours). If you need an appointment sooner than 48 hours, there are some circumstances when this can be arranged. We also recommend this time as thinking time, so you are happy you are making the right decision. All side effects and complications will be discussed with you in detail prior to the procedure and you will also be asked to sign a consent form.

Are photos taken during the treatments?

Seeing the difference between treatments is a real benefit. We recommend that photos are taken before you first treatment, which are repeated at various intervals. This not only allows us to monitor the progress, but you can see the difference which gives you even more confidence that you look good.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

No, all treatments provided are medical procedures, therefore, we do not want there to be any financial obligation when deciding if the treatments are right for you.

What happens post procedure?

Initially after the procedure, post-procedure guidance will be given and discussed with you. Depending on the treatment you have, will depend on the time you will start to see results. However, you will be offered a review appointment 2 weeks after facial line and wrinkle treatments & dermal fillers, 4 weeks for treatment for excessive sweating and 10 weeks for migraine treatments. Results will be reviewed at this appointment and a complimentary top-up will be offered for facial treatments, however, depending on your response to treatment, this may not be required. Generally, we like to see you for your review appointment – However, if you are completely happy with the treatment outcome, you may feel this is not required.

How can I pay for the treatments?

We accept cash, BACS transfer in addition to card payments (Credit & Debit).

Are Line and Wrinkle treatments (Botox) painful?

You may experience some minor discomfort during the treatment, however, we will aim to minimise any discomfort by applying some anaesthetic cream to the area (Which takes approx. 30 mins to work). We also use the smallest needles available which are about the width of a hair.

Are Dermal Fillers painful?

This procedure can be uncomfortable and will dependant on individual responses to pain. Although we will do everything we can to minimise the discomfort. We always apply anaesthetic cream beforehand and all the dermal fillers we use contain an anaesthetic.

How long does it take to see results with line and wrinkle treatments?

Response to treatment is individual, however, most people will start to see affects 3-7 days after the procedure with the full result seen at 14 - 21 days.

How long does it take to see the results with dermal fillers?

Instantly, throughout the treatment we will encourage you to look at the results, but you will see a difference immediately. Due to the initial swelling and redness, the area will look more inflamed than usual, however, this will generally settle over several days after treatments.

What is the difference between an experienced nurse and a doctor undertaking the procedure?

As long as the nurse is an independent prescriber, there is no real difference when it comes to a doctor or a nurse performing your treatments, as both doctors and nurses undertake the same training. Jenny is an experienced nurse, who has undertaken advanced training to allow her to be automatous and independent (Nurses can perform aesthetic treatments, but they may require a prescriber such as a suitable nurse or doctor for the prescription and initial consultation). However, nurses are trained very differently, one of the first skills we learn is injection technique, as this is a much later skill for doctors which is rarely practiced. Also in nursing practice, all skills have to be signed off by a senior nurse who is competent in the skill, compared to doctors in which the training is ‘see one, do one’ ethos.

A good injection technique is also key to improved results, less side effects and reduction in pain and bruising.

Can beauticians do the procedure?

Technically yes, although this is something which is currently being discussed as Botox is a prescription only medicine and all injectable treatments are a medical procedure. Unfortunately, there have been a lot of cases where beauticians are claiming to also be nurses to put patients at ease, and although they are well-trained in beauty, they may lack the knowledge and experience for the procedure and also what to do if something was to go wrong. We would recommend you do research on the clinic/practitioner who will be undertaking the procedure to make sure you are happy before going ahead.

(All nurses and doctors have to be registered with the following organisations to be able to legally practice in the UK - They have live searchable registers which are accessible to the pubic)

Nurses - Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) / Doctors - General Medical Council (GMC).

I’ve been to other clinics and they have recommended all sorts of treatments, I am confused do I need them all?

Looking good is important to everyone, but also we have our own specific concerns we want to improve. At the redefine clinic, we want to improve what is important to you and what you see when you look in the mirror. A major part of the aesthetic practice which Jenny does not agree with, is that you might have a specific concern that you would like addressed, but the practitioner suggests treatment on an unrelated area. This leaves most people self-conscious about an area they didn’t have concerns with.

We will always recommend the best treatments for you and address the areas you are concerned about – after all, we want you to feel confident that you look good.

l’ve noticed that other clinics/practitioners give prices for filler in per mL/Syringe - Why don’t you show the prices for filler?

When deciding our prices, we thought long and hard about the prices we advertise. Dermal Fillers are different to Botox, in that the look and amount you will need really does differ between individuals and the desired result. The prices also drastically vary depending on the type and brand of filler.

Instead of pricing per mL/Syringe, we actually price on the completed look you want to achieve based on the right filler for you - This is one of the reasons we offer a complimentary consultation. Injecting filler is an art, and anyone can inject filler to an area to increase the size,/shape but with the Redefine Clinic, you aren’t just paying for the product, you are actually paying for it to be expertly placed, and that normally works out less than paying per mL. The final look is really important to us, sometimes, if you know you have paid for 1ml of filler, occasionally clients can get fixated on the amount of filler rather than the actual look, which really can spoil the end result.

You will notice that the more experienced the clinic, the less  likely the price per syringe and mL, but rather price on the desired look, after a in-depth consultation.

Please feel free to contact if you require any information on the treatments we provide, or for any questions on the process.
